Despite my late night, I still woke early and couldn’t get back to sleep. I got up and sorted and packed my food for the next three days and did a few other chores before going to the adjoining Pancake House for breakfast. I shared a table with a young Canadian girl PCT hiker who I have seen on the trail a few times recently, and we had a good chat.
The rest of the day was spent planning the next leg, catching up on emails and video chats with my kids, along with plenty of relaxing. I have a fairly aggressive hiking schedule for the next two weeks to Canada and two weeks ago committed to accommodation bookings at my final two resupply stops – Skykomish and Stehekin. I spent some time today wondering whether I should call them, warning that I may not make it for the first of the two nights booked at each place. In the end, I did call my next planned stop and warn them I might not make it as scheduled. Could be some early starts and late nights in my immediate future.
Tomorrow, I’ll follow my usual practice of getting an early breakfast (at the Pancake House at 7:00am when it opens) and setting out as soon as I can after that. The day starts with a big climb!
