Weather: Very warm and sunny
Accommodation: Tent behind Kennedy Meadows General Store
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, bacon and chips, and part of a giant pancake
Dinner: Double cheeseburger and fries (not much choice)
Highlight: More trail friends, Octane and Selvi, arrived along with some others I have got to know, making it a kind of reunion before the High Sierras
Lowlight: A bit of a scare when my tablet PC froze, especially when WiFi here is flakey at best. Eventually, I got sufficient signal to Google a fix via my phone and after some playing around it worked.

The day was spent unpacking my various boxes, repacking, and deciding what to mail ahead and elsewhere. Pretty much everybody else was doing the same. There were a lot of new ice axes and crampons on display. Many hikers seemed to be preparing to tackle the deep snow ahead, icy high passes and raging rivers, but one of the other hikers reckons about 50% of the hikers are going to skip the High Sierras from this point. We are all a bit apprehensive and excited at the same time.
I took advantage of a shuttle to Grumpy’s Bar, a couple of miles down the road, for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast included an enormous pancake that completely hid the plate below. I couldn’t eat half of it.
I hope to get going reasonably early tomorrow and don’t expectto have mobile phone coverage for up to five or six days, so this may be my last post for a little while
